That tropes are not bad, and overusing them does not automatically make a work bad.
I learned that one does not simply look something up on TV Tropes.
I found one of my favorite authors (Charles Stross) by following an example link from an interesting trope.
The most obnoxious kid in any high school has a rich dad whose new real estate project is going to shut down the bikini shop.
Turning things off and back on again does infact solve 90% of your problems.

Too much is a bad thing and the audience will call you out for lazy writing (even if they can’t say it xy or z trope)
