The irony is that these platforms never did bother to moderate. I’ll occasionally flag some comments that are very obvious hate speech and the response is always “we found nothing wrong”.
Heck i only upgraded my 10yo 'puter 'cos of mobo issues… that turned out to be a PEBKAC anyway (mostly). I don’t game though.

Changing from one proprietary connector to another pissed a lot of people off.
Changing to a standard USB-C connector would piss off almost no one.

Dell blocking the BIOS is a bit slim to claim “PC hardware companies”, but they definitely are. HP’s crap too in this regard.
Cramming more and more stuff into a SOC leads to this for sure but it’s hardly the only factor. Built-in obsolescence also plays a heavy role.
This is called manufacturing consent.
That new passport of yours most likely has a chip in it already so you can just swipe it a a border on one of those big machines with cameras… most new passports do… yay.
