I’m annoyed because I know my purchase is going to count towards showing the success of AI in their product, when in reality it’s just coincidental.

I mean, they’re clearly thinking about sweet versus not sweet. The discussion isn’t really about what a tomato is and isn’t, it’s about what the words mean and how they’re using them. There’s no doubt about what a tomato is. Everyone has a clear understanding about it. It’s just that people mean different things when they say it is/isn’t a fruit. People saying it isn’t a fruit say that because it isn’t sweet. Which is fine, there’s nothing wrong with that. But if they’re disagreeing that a tomato is the fruit of a tomato plant then they’re being foolish. And I don’t think anyone is saying that.

Whenever people are arguing about this it’s just so exhausting because they’ll hear something like “a tomato is a fruit” or that “all fruits are vegetables” and rather than try to seek understanding about how the other party is using the words they just dig their heels in and insist that’s wrong. When the whole reason they’re upset is because they’re picturing their own usage of the terms and imagining the other person saying a tomato is that.

Right, the fruit of the plant is what we consider fruit.

I hate when people get into minute arguments about what is visually happening on screen versus the story that’s being told. It can be a single jump narratively but two jumps in production. (I’ve never seen the movie.)

All fruits are vegetables, not all vegetables are fruits. All edible plant matter is vegetable. Fruits are, well, the fruit of a plant.

The best example I can think of, and this is being very generous to the AI bros, is that they’re trying to compare it to obsolete creative positions. Think about animation. Each frame used to have to be hand drawn and colored entirely by hand. There was a lot of heavy lifting going on in the process that weren’t necessarily creative but still required for the final product. I think they’re trying to say that we’ll need less work like this.

I’m not sure I agree or how accurate their claims are.

I got a 2024 LG OLED TV. It has “AI” but idk what it does exactly. During the setup process there was a step that had a shitty still image of a baby with some crappy music playing. There were two toggle switches to enable AI picture and sound. It was so cheesy. I can’t make this shit up. When you turned on picture AI the baby image became HD and a video instead of a still image. I was like “Oh my God, wow! Look at the AI! I wonder what the AI sound is??” So we turn it on and the sound gets high def and adds more instruments in.

In case it isn’t clear, none of this was actually AI or enabling actual features on the TV, just some weird required step in the process of setup. It wasn’t an AI animated video or sound, just a different video of the baby and a different audio track.

Do do both. The text of the alert and a link for minor updates that don’t warrant a new alert.

I sincerely doubt this was anything targeted at Amber Alerts specifically.

I don’t see this as Twitter/X’s fault (very much), I mostly blame them for linking to a Tweet instead of just sending the details in the Amber alert. Or, here’s a bright idea, why no both? Send the details and a link to a tweet for updates.

There was a video years and years ago where they explained their business model and it has either since changed or they lied. Back then it was that they offered deals through sponsorships or something. I don’t remember. It was years ago. What’s frustrating is that I remember seeing that video and it definitely made me think it wasn’t a scam. Probably had the same effect on a lot of other people too.

Unless they themselves were also Honey users, perhaps.

Do you have any evidence of individual pages having different rules than the book as a whole? It’s a plot point in at least one episode (I think multiple) that individual pages ripped out can still be used (it’s even the entire point of your hypothetical). Why do you believe you touching an individual page wouldn’t let you see the Shinigami?

Why wouldn’t it? It’s literally a plot point of the show that individual pages still work the same.
