  • A lot of characters are short range or melee.

There are a bunch of flying/gliding/wall climbing characters, but a lot of characters don’t have tools to deal with enemies who are not grounded.

The game has been fun, but I’ve given it up now mainly because of balance and match making issues. >80% of the games I play are completely one-sided. One team will never be able to touch the objective or will be completely confined to the spawn point. Even if I’m on the winning team, such one-sided steamrolling is no fun.

  • Talk about yourself (or to yourself) in the second or third person in your mind. We’re usually far more critical of our own actions than we would be good a friend. We would never be negative to a friend in such an unkind way, as we are to ourselves. A change in language to the third person for you inner dialogue prompts you to take an external observer’s point of view and to talk to yourself in the way you would talk to others.

If you’re into podcasts, then 2 podcasts that are great for learning about things like this are Happiness Lab and Hidden Brain.

  • I hardly ever consider looking at AAA games. All my time is spent on indie games.

It’s the same with movies, music, books…the big corporations try to make a safe, mediocre, standard experience that will have the broadest appeal without taking risks. To find really good stuff, you need to look to creators who really care about the art (which is a lot more work and has higher risk of being boring, but higher potential for reward too).
