        Yes, but most males don’t spin webs, so a “web designer” spider is far more likely to be female.

      The ones that build webs are. The males of orb weavers/cobweb spiders wander from place to place, always on the move looking for food and sexy ladies.

      I know this book gets recommended at every opportunity around here, so continuing the tradition: Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky is a wonderful sci-fi novel that (among many other things) explores the gender roles of spider society.
